The Dubna ( Russian Дубна ) is a 167 km long right tributary of the Volga in the European part of Russia .

course

The Dubna rises in the Klin-Dmitrov Heights in the northwest of Vladimir Oblast . First it flows in a north and north-westerly direction before it turns west at the village of Iskra , where the Rassolowka flows into it. Shortly afterwards, the river, which is now around 20 m wide, reaches the northeast of Moscow Oblast .

North of Bogorodskoje , just before the confluence of the Peremoika , it turns north and continues to flow through the intensively agricultural area. The river meanders through a lowland and takes on numerous drainage ditches . After taking up the Sulat , it curves to the west and later to the south-west, where its valley narrows and now flows through a landscape dominated by forests.

At Werbilki the Dubna turns again in north-western and northern directions. It is now 25–30 m wide and 1.5–2 m deep, and its valley is cut deeper here. Before it reaches the city of Dubna , its largest tributary, the Sestra , flows into it , the river is now up to 60 m wide.

On its last four kilometers, it marks the border between Moscow Oblast and Tver Oblast , before it flows into the Volga 8 km below the Ivankovo reservoir .

The river is frozen from November to April and is navigable 15 km from the mouth to the village of Bereshok .
