Waschleithe is a district of the town of Grünhain-Beierfeld in the Saxon Ore Mountains District .

Waschleithe is about 5 kilometers northeast of Schwarzenberg in the Ore Mountains in the valley of the Oswaldbach .
The district road 9113 leads through the village from Langenberg to the state road 222 Schönbrunn -Zelle.

history
Localization
To process the rich ore and silver deposits in the area around the Grünhain monastery , an ore wash was built near the Glaßberg . Residential houses were built nearby for the workers and their families. The name of the place, which is first documented as Waschsleiden in 1528 , is derived from the frequently used ending -leite for slope and can thus be traced back to this "washing on the slope". Waschleithe is therefore not one of the many older Erzgebirge villages that were laid out around 1200 , but only emerged with the advent of mining. This is also clear from the layout of the place. Waschleithe is a chain-like village in rows and, with its block plots, was enough for the inhabitants who work in the mining industry. In 1551 it was relatively sparsely populated with a total of 16 heads of household. Until 1764 the population had not grown significantly with 16 gardeners and four cottagers . Only over the course of the following two centuries did the population gradually increase and reach its peak in the 1950s with around 800 inhabitants. The Waschleither went to Grünhain for the service from the beginning . Politically, too, the village was subordinate to the office of the same name for most of the time . After the turnaround and the reorganization of the Free State of Saxony, incorporations took place, on January 1, 1999, Waschleithe came to Beierfeld with its 562 inhabitants (as of December 31, 1998) , which merged with Grünhain in 2005 to form the city of Grünhain-Beierfeld .
Altenburg prince robbery
Waschleithe gained national fame through the Altenburg prince robbery in 1455 . Legend has it that the charcoal burner Georg Schmidt freed Prince Albrecht from his hostage. In gratitude, Schmidt was then ennobled and called "von Triller" and given a free good at Zwickau. In memory of the prince's liberation, the residents of Waschleithe erected a monument in the form of an obelisk on Fürstenberg in 1822. Immediately next to it, a hut was built at the end of the 1830s, which has been a hotel and restaurant since then as the Köhlerhütte Fürstenbrunn .

Attractions
St. Oswalds Church (Dudelskirche)
One of the sights of the place is the ruin of the St. Oswalds Church, which is popularly called "Dudelskirche". In 1514 (according to other sources 1515) the Grünhain abbot Gregorius Küttner and the Annaberg mayor Wolfgang Messerschmidt laid the foundation stone for the building. It has not been established whether it was ever finished and used as a chapel . Since 1536 and the dissolution of the Grünhain monastery , the church was in a state of disrepair.
According to a legend, the rich hammer and mountain lord Caspar Klinger built the church as atonement for the murder of the Elterlein mountain lord Wolf Götterer and was struck by lightning that struck the building on the day of the consecration.
In February 2008, a wooden atonement cross created by the Scheibenberg artist Peter Rehr was erected in front of the Dudelskirche.
