Remarks

  1. The day of death is considered certain, the information on the year of death fluctuates between 955 and 960. In the older literature 960 and 959 appear. The later dating goes to Nicolaus Schaten : Annalium Paderbornensium Pars I. complectens inprimis fusiorem Episcorporum Paderbornensium ... (known as Annales Paderbornenses ), 2 vol., Vol. 1, Christoph Nagel, Neuhaus 1693, p. 304 back. Shadow refers to the Vita Meinwerci , which shows a contradicting chronology. Schaten therefore mentions that others believed Dudo died in 955; there is also the date “VII Calend in Necrologio Herisiensium”. Augusti ". An attempt to explain how this incorrect dating came about is offered by Georg Joseph Bessen: History of the Diocese of Paderborn , Wesener, Paderborn 1820, p. 102. According to him, it is possible that there was a reading error in the number of his years in office, which was recorded in the Vita Meinwerci with "XXV" or "XXIV" is indicated, where according to Bessen "XXII" could have been.
