action

The financially tight artist agent Franzi is facing a problem: The rock star Alexander Gromberg urgently needs a comeback. But he prefers to indulge in sex and drugs instead of rock'n roll. This also reaches record manager Fricke, who wants to take a look at Gromberg before planning a tour with him.

When Gromberg ends up in a closed psychiatric institution after an excess, Franzi resorted to unusual means. A newspaper picture showing farmer Sven Gose, who looks like Gromberg confusingly, with his breeding sow gives them an idea. She presents this doppelganger to Fricke as Gromberg. Styled up and with a few wooden phrases, Sven passes the first test.

But now the management of the record label wants to see a show in front of an audience. Franzi only stayed a few days to turn the shy farmer into a perfect Gromberg double. In his youth, Sven had his own band, but now he makes no sound at rehearsals. The real Gromberg, on the mend, notices what is going on behind his back. He plans to break out of the clinic with his favorite patient Rina, with whom he befriended after initial difficulties. After both of them outsmart a nurse, they flee the clinic, but Gromberg puts Rina in great danger because she can't cope with the hustle and bustle of the big city. When he brings her back to the clinic after a short time after a breakdown, he learns that Rina is voluntarily in the care of the doctors because she cannot cope with the overstimulation of the outside world. Gromberg regrets his outbreak and finally accepts the therapists' help. Nothing stands in the way of his release.

Meanwhile, Sven is working on himself and is about to fall in love with Franzi. But as soon as they get closer, they argue, so that Sven drives back to his farm without saying goodbye. Here he faces his trauma, which explains why he failed rehearsals in the studio. When he was practicing with his band in the barn in his youth, there was a short circuit that started a fire and seriously injured his father when he tried to put out the fire. This incident had strained him and his relationship with his father over the years. Against all odds, his father is now encouraging him not to give up everything, but to fight for the woman he has obviously fallen in love with. He follows this advice and drives back to Berlin, where Gromberg has since been released and is ready to give the concert that evening. Sven asks him to be allowed to pretend to be him again, which Gromberg promises, but neither of them tell anyone about it. Franzi, who assumes she has the old artist in front of her, is initially shocked, but then also amazed at Sven. Who confesses his love to her from the stage by dedicating his own song to her. Now she has to pour pure wine for the agent, who is initially annoyed, but then impressed by Sven's talent. He is spontaneously ready to sign a contract with this singer, but Franzi refuses because she has finally recognized that there are more important things than money and a career. Meanwhile, Gromberg went back to the clinic to give a very small private concert there - without any starry airs, because he too had learned his lesson.

criticism

Wolfgang Platzeck from the Morgenpost wrote: “The double role as a very fit farmer and run-down rock star gives Bezzel [...] every opportunity to prove his great acting and comedic skills. Of course, this cannot be done without alluding to the stubborn Franz Eberhofer ; Even the endless furrows as a recurring motif seem to be heading straight for the famous roundabout near Niederkaltenkirchen.

But this farmer Sven, who wants to revive an unfulfilled childhood dream, is shy, inhibited, tormented by fears and doubts, which gives the humor a quiet, pensive note.

Even his exalted rocker, who gets wind of the dizziness and plans to break out of the asylum with the patient Rina, never slips into gossip or even defamation despite being overdone. That has nothing of Franz Eberhofer at all, it is more reminiscent of the refreshing portrait satires of a Hape Kerkeling . "

At Tittelbach.tv , Tilmann P. Gangloff rated : “Behind the clumsy Friday film title […] lies a brisk, highly entertaining musical comedy.” The film had “the right speed” and “the staging delights in the contrast between the two main characters: here the good farmer, a typical Bezzel figure, because Sven has a great talent; there the completely finished musician, in whose embodiment the actor fulfills all imaginable clichés. The catchy working title 'If wrong, then right!' refers to the really good song that Sven performs in the furious finale, and it does the film more justice. "

Heike Hupertz from the FAZ said: "All in all, 'real farmers sing better' provides the kind of enjoyment with a little depth that you don't see too often on television."

Gong magazine also gave a short and concise verdict: 'Eberhofer' pretzel as a singing 'pig' Prussian? If wrong, then right! Really funny."
