Ed Flanders
Edward Paul Flanders (born December 29, 1934 in Minneapolis , Minnesota , † February 22, 1995 in Denny , California ) was an American actor .
Life
After training to be an actor, Flanders first found work as a stage actor. In the sixties and seventies he played for a long time on New York's Broadway . Eventually Hollywood noticed him too. Flanders starred alongside Robert DeNiro in the crime thriller Dangerous Confession , in the Stephen King film adaptation Brennen muss Salem / Schrecken im Marstenhaus , in the comedy Bye Bye, Love and in the third part of the horror film series Der Exorcist .
Flanders has been cast in roles as US President several times, for example in the television series White House, Back Entrance , in which he played Calvin Coolidge , and he played Harry S. Truman three times : alongside Gregory Peck in the war drama MacArthur - Hero of the Pacific as well in the television films Truman at Potsdam and Harry S. Truman: Plain Speaking .
He celebrated his greatest successes on American television. The actor was awarded the prestigious Emmy a total of three times for his performance : For A Moon for the Loaded (A Moon for the Misbegotton) by Eugene O'Neill , for Harry S. Truman: Plain Speaking and for his leading role of the same name on NBC -Tv series chief physician Dr. Westphall (St. Elsewhere) .
In 1987, Flanders left the series after disagreements with the producers. In the period that followed, the previously very busy mime was no longer able to build on earlier successes. When his marriage failed and chronic pain had plagued him since a car accident in 1989, the actor committed suicide in his apartment in Willow Creek, Northern California .
From 1963 to 1968 Flanders was married to actress Ellen Geer .
