action

Police widow Edwina Franklin ('Eddie') is a luxury limousine driver in New York City and also a big fan of the New York Knicks basketball team . The team is experiencing a sporting crisis and some failures. The new owner of the Knicks, the Texan oil millionaire Wild Bill Burgess, recognizes her talent to lead and train a team. At his instigation, Eddie wins a draw for a few hours in which she can assist with the training. She is hired as a new trainer for the previous unsuccessful coach and first clears up prejudices and the misconduct of some players. When she also learns to deal with each player individually, the team's success in playing quickly returns.

The owner wants to move the team from New York to St. Louis . Eddie leads the opposition to the plans and dupes Wild Bill by publicly announcing his plans to the audience during one of the final games of the season. Burgess rowed back amid angry protests from the crowd and put his plans on hold. In the last game before the playoffs, which the Knicks absolutely have to win, Eddie and her team face the Charlotte Hornets ' rival team under the Knicks' former coach, John Bailey. Crucial tactical advice from her assistant coach Carl Zimmer brings last-second success.
