Ulrich Alexander "Rick" Fox (born July 24, 1969 in Toronto ) is a former Canadian - Bahamian basketball player who was active from 1991 to 2004 in the US professional league NBA for the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers . The 2.01 meter tall Fox mostly played in the position of small forward and won the NBA championship three times with the Lakers.

Sports career

Fox was voted 24th in the 1991 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics . He was elected to the All-Rookie Second Team in his debut season in the NBA , but was more of a supplement than a regular in his early years. His breakthrough came in 1995 when he played 81 of 82 games from the start and increased his average to 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game. In 1997, Fox was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers and formed a powerful swingman trio with Glen Rice and Eddie Jones , before he was pushed onto the bench by 18-year-old shooting guard Kobe Bryant the next season .

When Phil Jackson became Lakers coach in 1999, he made the versatile Fox instead of Rice a regular player in the small-forward position and looked after him with the task of defensively protecting Bryant's back. Led by Shaquille O'Neal and Bryant, the Lakers won three championships in a row from 2000 to 2002, a so-called " three-peat " . In 2003, however, Fox injured his knee and never reached his previous level.

After the Lakers lost the NBA final in 2004, Fox was sold back to the Celtics, but played no more games and ended his career at the age of 34.

Acting career

Fox made cameos in the basketball films Blue Chips (1994), Eddie (1996) and He Got Game (1998) during his NBA career, and was also a shampoo model. In 1999 he took on a role in Resurrection . From 1997 to 2003 he also played the role of "Jackson Vahue" in the series Oz - Hell Behind Bars , had various appearances in other Hollywood series and gained fame in the USA with the role of "Prince Tyresse" in the series Dirt . He is also the godfather of the television project The 1 Second Film and was seen in the television series One Tree Hill . Apart from that, he has appeared in four episodes of the Internet series Jake and Amir on College Humor to date .

Fox is a multiethnic person; his mother is from Italy , his father from the Bahamas . In 1999 he married the actress Vanessa Williams and they have a daughter who was born in 2000. In 2004 the marriage was divorced.

On December 18, 2015 it was announced that Rick Fox had bought the American professional esports team Gravity Gaming , which was active in the MOBA game League of Legends , which he renamed Echo Fox . He's been the owner of the team ever since.
