John Benjamin Hickey (born June 25, 1963 in Plano , Texas ) is an American actor .

Life

After high school , Hickey first attended Texas State University-San Marcos between 1981 and 1983 . He received his bachelor's degree in English from Fordham University in 1985 . He began his acting career in the theater and appeared in off-Broadway productions from 1992 . He made his Broadway debut in 1995 in the role of Arthur Pape in Love! Valor! Compassion! at the side of John Glover . The Tony Award- nominated comedy from the pen of Terrence McNally was filmed in 1997, with almost the entire Broadway cast being available again. In addition to other Broadway engagements, including Cabaret and Mary Stuart and the drama The Normal Heart , for which he received the Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award in 2011 , Hickey also began a career in film and television from the mid-1990s.

Hickey made his film debut in 1994 in the black comedy No Panic - Good hostages are rarely at the side of Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey , but this in no more than an extra role . In the same year, he had a major supporting role in the comedy Just for You alongside Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. Subsequently, he had supporting roles in numerous major Hollywood productions such as The Bone Hunter , Defenseless - The General's Daughter , Flags of Our Fathers and Transformers - The vengeance . In addition to guest appearances in numerous television series and recurring guest roles on Law & Order , The Good Wife and The New Normal it is above all the television audience as Philip Stoddard from the sitcom All Relative and as Sean Tolke from The Big C known.
