Eddie Metz Jr. (born July 28, 1958 in Allentown (Pennsylvania) ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , also vocals ) of mainstream jazz .

Live and act

Metz grew up in Ann Arbor , Michigan; when he was three he got his first drumsticks from a musician from his father Ed Metz senior's Dixieland band, and when he was twelve he played in local bands. First recordings were made in 1974 when he performed with the David Hutson Hot Six at the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Festival in Davenport, Iowa. From 1982 he studied in the jazz program of the William Paterson College of New Jersey; during this time he toured with the Count Basie Orchestra . In the following years he worked with musicians such as Dick Hyman , Warren Vaché , Chick Corea , Michael Feinstein , Woody Herman and His Orchestra , Clark Terry , Arturo Sandoval , Scott Hamilton , Bill Allred , Bucky Pizzarelli , Ralph Sutton , the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra ( Ghost Band led by Buddy Morrow ), Eddie Higgins , Ken Peplowski , Tommy Newsom , Wycliffe Gordon , Kenny Drew junior , Bob Wilber , Kenny Davern and Milt Hinton .

In 1999 Metz got the opportunity to record his debut album Tough Assignment (A Tribute to Davie Tough ) for Nagel-Heyer Records ; participating musicians were Harry Allen , Randy Sandke , John Allred, Allan Vaché , Johnny Varro and Phil Flanigan . In 2008 he recorded the album Bridging the Gap for Arbors Records with his trio of Rossano Sportiello (piano) and Nicki Parrott (double bass) . From the 1990s onwards, Metz lived in Orlando, Florida, where he worked as a musician at Walt Disney World . In the field of jazz, he was involved in 93 recording sessions between 1974 and 2015, in addition to the aforementioned with Grover Mitchell , Bob Crosby , Chuck Hedges , John Sheridan and Michiko Ogawa .
