Edi Mue Gathegi (born March 10, 1979 in Nairobi , Kenya ) is an American actor .

life and career

Edi Gathegi grew up in Albany , California . He attended the University of California, where he was a successful basketball player . After a knee injury, he had to end his sports career and discovered his love for acting. After he attended the "Tisch School of the Arts" in New York , he began his acting career in the theater. He played in the plays Othello , A Midsummer Night's Dream and Cyrano de Bergerac , among others .

Gathegi had his first role in front of the camera in 2006 as Haitian Cabbie in Crank . In 2007 he was seen in a guest role on the television series Veronica Mars and played the role of Bodie in Death Sentence . In the same year he was seen as Cheese in Gone Baby Gone .

He gained notoriety through a recurring role as Dr. Jeffrey Cole on the television series Dr. House and as the vampire Laurent in Twilight - Bite at Dawn (2008) and New Moon - Bite at Noon (2009). In the same year he played Deputy Martin in the horror film My Bloody Valentine 3D , followed in 2011 by the role of Darwin in the X-Men film X-Men: First Decision . From 2015 to 2016 he played the recurring role of henchman Matias Solomon in the US series The Blacklist , which he then embodied in its spin-off The Blacklist: Redemption .
