Edin Bajrić (* 1980 in Bosanska Dubica , Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian artist . The former war refugee lives and works in Hanover today .
Life
Growing up in a small town in the former Yugoslavia, Edin Bajrić fled to the beginning of the so-called Bosnian war as a war refugee with his parents and two siblings in a "preliminary, always vulnerable security" for Germany : For thirteen years the family fought in Hanover to a permanent right to stay . This "grueling fight", documented in the video film Passport made in 2008 , "with changing passports and new stamps for short-term residence permits ", "in the end, most likely saved the family's life."
Edin Bajrić passed his A-levels in Hanover and began studying fine arts at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences in 2002 with a focus on painting and multimedia . During this time he dealt artistically with the horrors of the Balkan War under Professors Sigrun Jakubaschke , Verena Vernunft and Helen Koriath . After visiting his place of birth for the first time in 2004, he was awarded the DAAD “for social commitment” prize by the University of Applied Sciences in 2007, graduated in 2007 with a diploma and in 2008 became a master student of Vera Vernunft.
The emotions and thoughts of Edin Bajrić, his traumatizing experiences of flight and expulsion, the security of his childhood in the family - ambivalences between happy and terrible memories determine the artist's work: Bajrić “works situationally and autobiographically : First the idea is there, then the ideal medium for implementation is sought. Escape, migration, relocating - moments of movement ”pervade the artistic work,“ in addition to video films, photo series, paintings, sculptures, performances and installations ”.
He also built his installation Arche , which was already shown at Landestrost Castle , in the joint exhibition WasserKunst: Between Dike and Pond , presented in August 2013 by curator Dagmar Brand in the historic park of Edelhof Ricklingen . In the exhibition catalog , the artist commented: "If I were to build an ark, it would be in the form of a paper ship."
