In the year 864 or 865 the priest Wiecmann ( Wincmannus ) donated all his goods to Edinga to the monastery of Echternach. A letter of protection from Pope Viktor IV dated June 9, 1161 mentions the church located there as well as the village. In a wisdom from 1588, the lay judges recognize the abbot of Echternach as the landlord and the sovereign ( Luxembourg ) as the high judge .
Edingen was assigned to the administrative and judicial district of the Luxembourg provost of Echternach .
After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the French canton Echternach in the department of forests .
In 1815, the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . With this, the municipality of Edingen came to the district of Trier in the administrative district of Trier in the province of Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine in 1816 , which in 1822 became part of the Rhine province. The municipality of Edingen was subordinated to the mayor's office in Ralingen .
After the Second World War , Edingen became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone .
