EduCamp

An EduCamp is an open conference at which mainly media-pedagogical questions as well as general forms and methods of teaching and learning are dealt with. The main focus is mostly on the use of media  - especially new media  - in the educational context at schools and universities as well as in the corporate environment .

As with the Barcamp , the process and content are developed by the participants themselves during the course of the conference, whereby this principle of a largely self-organizing and free “hands-on conference” at the EduCamp is supplemented by established conference methods such as the panel discussion and the open space .

history

In 2007, developed and tested Diego Leal, a researcher at the Colombian Ministry of Education (Ministerio de Educación Nacional) , in Colombia a Unkonferenzformat called EduCamp ( English education [bar] camp " education , the conference") through workshops in the open-space style was.

As a Web 2.0 initiative, the idea of the EduCamp quickly found imitators in various countries, including Ukraine , Canada and Malaysia . A second series of workshops with a total of seven stations was held in Colombia at the end of 2008; further EduCamp workshops followed there in 2009 and 2010.

In the German-speaking countries , the EduCamp approach was taken up in 2007 by the German media scientist Steffen Büffel and, following an online round table (ORT), it was concretized together with the media scientists Thomas Bernhardt and Marcel Kirchner. Based on the BarCamp format, they developed a German-language EduCamp format, which was then implemented in 2008. The first EduCamp in German-speaking countries took place in April 2008 at the Technical University in Ilmenau , Thuringia . Further EduCamps followed in various German cities and in Graz , Austria ; the now seventh EduCamp found in March 2011 at the University in Bremen instead.

Criteria of German-speaking EduCamps

Goals and participants

The aim of a (German-speaking) EduCamp is to bring people working in the education sector together who actively and critically deal with innovative forms, formats, technologies, strategies, etc. of media-based learning in a "hands-on conference" in order to exchange ideas about its future to be able to.

The group of people addressed includes experts and teachers in schools and universities, representatives from companies and agencies, as well as interested schoolchildren and students.

procedure

Session plan (grid) at EduCamp 2011 # 7 at the University of Bremen .

As with the BarCamp concept, every participant in a (German-speaking) EduCamp is asked to bring up their own topic, which they would like to lecture or discuss. This can be realized during the EduCamp through lectures , workshops, discussions and other methods of scientific exchange .

The exact schedule of the EduCamp results from the choice of topic on site; only one motto has already been set and suggested topics can be discussed in advance. In the opening round of the EduCamp, all participants first introduce themselves using three key words . The participants then have the opportunity to present their topic on which they would like to offer a so-called session ("discussion round"). If the topic finds at least a small group of interested parties, the speaker can enter his topic in the previously defined session plan. These "timetables", the so-called grids , assign the individual session offers to fixed times and rooms.

Content

The focus of a (German-speaking) EduCamp is always the subject of "Teaching and Learning 2.0", in particular e-learning and corporate learning , but also teaching and learning in general with the focus on new media . The content focuses primarily on the use of social software such as blogs , podcasts or wikis in the educational context, both in schools and universities as well as in the corporate environment. Since, according to the principle of a BarCamp, the content depends on the interests of the participants, other educational topics are also possible despite the high affinity for e-learning.
