Eiður Sigurbjörnsson (2016)

Eiður Aron Sigurbjörnsson (born February 26, 1990 ) is an Icelandic football player . The defender has played in his home country, Norway, Sweden and Germany in his career so far.

Career

Eiður comes from the youth of ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar . In 2008 he made his debut for the club's competition team, in which he established himself as a regular player the following year and held the class in the Pepsideild with the first division promoter on the last non-relegation place . In the 2010 season he reached the qualifying phase for the UEFA Europa League with the club as third in the table and also attracted international attention.

In the summer of 2011, Eiður moved to Sweden to Örebro SK . By the end of the 2011 season , he played seven league games, he was also an international player in the Icelandic U-21 national team and was invited by national coach Lars Lagerbäck to a training camp for the Icelandic national team in January 2012. However, he then moved into the second tier at his club and did not play in the 2012 season - towards the end of the season partly due to injury. In January 2013, he returned to his Icelandic hometown club on loan. There he only missed all season games due to a yellow card suspension. In the following year the lending business was renewed, and a purchase option was agreed with ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar. In the summer of 2014, however, the agreement was terminated, then the defender also moved on loan to the Norwegian club Sandnes Ulf .

At the turn of the year 2014/15, Örebro SK was in negotiations with various clubs and Eiður did some trial training. After initially no transfer had been made, he impressed at the club's training camp in Portugal in February 2015 and then became a regular in the 2014/15 Swedish Cup during the group stage . While the team led by Alexander Axén around Robert Åhman-Persson , Ahmed Yasin Ghani , Daniel Gustavsson , Patrik Haginge , Karl Holmberg and Nordin Gerzić succeeded at the bottom of the table in spring 2015, they reached the cup final against IFK Göteborg . Against the then championship leaders Ayanda Nkili scored there on May 17, the interim 1-0 lead, but the game was lost with a 1-2 defeat.

After the end of the 2015 season , Eiður left Sweden and moved to the German club Holstein Kiel , where he signed a contract that was valid until the summer of 2017. In the second half of the 2015/16 season he made twelve appearances in the third division and also played for the reserve team. In the following season he did not get beyond the status of a supplementary player and played seven of the 38 possible league games.

After his contract in northern Germany expired in the summer of 2017, Eiður returned to his home country and joined Valur Reykjavík . With the club he won the national championship title at the end of the year, and he helped defend it in 20 league games in the 2018 season .
