The Eichenberg is located in the Lower Harz in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . It rises 3.7 km north of Hasselfelde , a district of the town of Oberharz am Brocken . Its wooded landscape falls steeply to the north in the valley of the Rappbode carrying Rappbode reservoir ( 423.6  m ) and passes south to about 1.7 km away Hoppelberg ( 507.5  m ) above.

Mountain height

The Eichenberg is at least 520  m high according to the top contour line recorded in the topographic map services of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) . Such maps show a 515.2  m high point about 300 m southwest of its summit .

Protected areas

On the entire oak Berg parts of the protected landscape resin and Northern harzvorland ( CDDA -No 20784;., 1968; 1587.6238  square kilometers ). Parts of the Eichenberg nature reserve are located on its high elevations and its northern flank (CDDA no. 318327; 2000 designated; 57.3  hectares in size). In these parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Bodetal and deciduous forests of the Harz border near Thale (FFH-Nr. 4231-303; 57.73 km²) and those of the bird sanctuary of Northeast Lower Harz (VSG- No. 4232-401; 169.88 km²).

Opportunities for viewing and hiking

The Eichenberg can be hiked, for example, from Hasselfelde, located on the federal road 81 , on a forest path that leads over the Hoppelberg. A few hundred meters west-north-west of the mountain summit, near a fork in the road ( 510.2  m ), there is the Rappbodeblick viewpoint ( ), from which the terrain slopes steeply to the Rappbodestausee . From there, the view extends across the reservoir in a northeastern direction past the Rotestein to the dam. The Rappbode view was until 2016 as no. 56 in the system of stamping points of Harzer Wandernadel included. In the reservoir, if the trees are not too thickly leafy, the preceptor cliff below the lookout point can be seen.
