A dollar between the teeth (original title: Un dollaro tra i denti ) is a spaghetti western from 1967 with Tony Anthony in the leading role. The film, directed by Luigi Vanzi , premiered on October 13, 1967 in German-speaking countries. He passed the Italian censorship on November 23, 1966.

action

A stranger dressed like an American army captain helps the bandit Aguilar to snatch a large load of gold. When he asked for his share, the Mexican's people laughed at him and beat him up. To avenge himself, the stranger follows the people of Aguilar to Cerro Gordo; but they can outsmart him first and subject him to the torture of a young woman who turns out to be Aguilar's wife. After he has managed to escape, he can take out Aguilar's people man by man and finally kill the bandit leader himself in a duel. For his return of the gold to the only survivor of the raid, Lieutenant Stafford, he receives a reward.

criticism

The “brutal spaghetti western”, whose hero, a nameless stranger “roams the earthly valley of tears with an unmoved, infinitely bored expression”, is characterized by a certain uniqueness: “Everything about the film is atmosphere”, according to genre specialist Christian Keßler . The Segnalazioni Cinematografiche wrote that the film told “its absurd story with crazy slowness”. The evangelical film observer passed a damning verdict : “Sadistic Italo-US western, without any psychological background. To be rejected! "

Remarks

The international title A Stranger in Town refers to the nameless title character whose adventure is retold in the films Western Jack and The Terror of Kung Fu .

The Italian gross profit was 118 million lire .
