Karl Schäfer won his first Olympic gold. Sonja Henie won her second Olympic title in a row with a unanimous judge's judgment. As four years before, Fritzi Burger had to be content with silver. The American Maribel Vinson won bronze. The now married French Andrée Brunet and Pierre Brunet defended their Olympic title from 1928 . It was the first Olympic title defense in pair skating. The French win the title was less clear than expected. The Americans Beatrix Loughran and Sherwin Badger showed the idea of ​​their life and won the silver medal. Two judges, one of whom was Walter Jakobsson , placed her first. Loughran had already won two medals in the Olympic Games in 1924 and 1928 .
