In 1994 she received her doctorate from the University of Erlangen. In 2002 he completed his habilitation at the University of Passau with a thesis on the use of writing among the Cistercians . Goez worked for the Monumenta Germaniae Historica from 2010 to 2018 . Her main research interests are the early and high Middle Ages, especially the Salier and Staufer times. She was married to the historian Werner Goez , who died in 2003 .

Goez developed an edition on the Cisterze Ebrach , which is the oldest Cistercian monastery east of the Rhine. From 1127 to 1306 the document edition comprises 560 pieces. In 2009 she published a description of the papacy and empire in the Middle Ages. A year later she published a presentation on the history of Italy in the Middle Ages.

Goez is considered to be the best expert on the Tuscan family of the Canossa. Beatrix of Lorraine dealt with her doctorate . Beatrix, long neglected in posterity, becomes for Goez the “prototype of a new form of female princely rule”. Since 1986 she and Werner Goez have been editing the documents of their daughter, Margravine Mathilde von Canossa . More than 90 archives and libraries in six countries were visited. The scientific edition was published in 1998 and comprises 139 documents that can be regarded as genuine as well as 15 forgeries and 115 otherwise verifiable or accessible deperdita . Goez presented a biography of Mathilde von Canossa in 2012.
