Place of investigation Mainz ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), formerly Freiburg |
Chief Detective Ellen Berlinger , played by Heike Makatsch , is a fictional investigator in the ARD crime series Tatort . Her first case, which was produced for SWR in 2016 , took place in Freiburg im Breisgau . In 2018 she was transferred to the State Criminal Police Office in Mainz, where she investigates together with Chief Inspector Martin Rascher, who is portrayed by Sebastian Blomberg . Both episodes were broadcast as a so-called "Event-Tatort" on an Easter Monday. The shooting of a third episode has been announced for 2020.
background
Originally, the Berlinger Tatort was planned as a one-off event that turned Freiburg into a crime scene. Since 2017 there has been an investigator duo there and in the neighboring Black Forest with Tobler and Berg who are permanently active. From 1978 to 1980 there was a first female crime scene investigator in Mainz, Chief Detective Marianne Buchmüller (Nicole Heesters).
characters
Ellen Berlinger
Chief Inspector Ellen Berlinger is pregnant and is returning to Freiburg after 15 years as a BKA investigator in London, where she will take up a position in the homicide department. In her hometown she meets her mother Edelgart Berlinger ( Angela Winkler ) and the 16-year-old Niina ( Emilia Bernsdorf ), her own daughter, whom she had given into the care of her grandmother when she left Freiburg. After the death of her mother and the baby break after the birth of her daughter Greta (Niina is now studying in Berlin), Ellen Berlinger moves to Mainz, where her cousin Maja Ginori ( Jule Böwe ) lives. This supports the single parent from Berling in looking after her daughter. "As unusual as a detective's previous life may be, thanks to Makatsch, thanks to her expressive physiognomy - this look, these eyes - there is little doubt for the viewer about the credibility of Ellen Berlinger's biography", writes the critic Rainer Tittelbach . "The inner troubles and the personal involvement in the case make up the strengths of this figure."
Martin Rascher
Martin Rascher is the chief inspector at the State Criminal Police Office in Mainz. He is far more empathetic than his colleague, says Tittelbach, “he doesn't need a personal bond to be completely absorbed in compassion”. The actor Blomberg describes his character as a highly integrated character, he is “not a cold, distant investigation machine”.
