Elmalı is a district ( İlçe ) in the Turkish province of Antalya and, together with the district town of Elmalı, is also a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Antalya (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1993 . It is located south of Korkuteli County , east of Kumluca County and north of Finike and Kaş Counties . To the west it borders on the Fethiye district of the Muğla Province .
The district is known for growing apples. 10% of Turkish apple production comes from Elmalı; the name Elmalı means in German the (city) with apples . The Leblebi ( roasted chickpeas ) from this group are known.
The district is named after the so-called "Elmalı Tombs", two late archaic tumuli with painted stone burial chambers near the villages of Karaburun and Kızılbel , which were excavated and restored by the American archaeologist Machteld Mellink .
The place Elmalı was founded in 1352 and (according to the city logo) raised to a municipality ( Belediye ) in 1868 .
