Eloro (wine)
Rosé and red wines are produced under the name Eloro DOC in the Free Community Consortia of Syracuse and Ragusa in Sicily . Since 1994 the wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC), which was last updated on March 7, 2014. There is also a sub-zone (sottozona) called "Pachino".
Cultivation
Cultivation is limited to the following communities:
- outdoor community consortium Syracuse: Noto , Pachino , Portopalo di Capo Passero and Rosolini
- outdoor municipal consortium Ragusa: Ispica .
generation
The rosé and red wines with the Eloro designation must be made from at least 90% of the grape varieties Nero d'Avola , Frappato and / or Pignatello (individually or together). Pignatello is a synonym for the Perricone grape variety .
If the grape variety (Nero d'Avola, Frappato or Pignatello) is specified for a wine in addition to Eloro , this must be at least 90%. A maximum of 10% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Sicily region may be added.
Wines that mention the Pachino sub-area must be made from at least 80% Nero d'Avola grapes. A maximum of 20% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Sicily region may be added.
