Sicilia (wine)

As Sicilia one is DOC - wine referred consisting of all wine-growing regions in Sicily may originate. This appellation was only introduced in 2011. The last modification dates from March 7, 2014. The appellation includes the entire island and may appear on the label as the addition "Sicilia". In this way, the Sicilian origin can also be made clear in the less well-known DOC appellations.

  • With reference to two of the following grape varieties:

Manufacturing instructions and description

  • Bianco, also as a late harvest : at least 50% Insolia, Catarratto, Grillo, Grecanico (individually or together), the rest may be other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Sicily
  • Rosso, also as a late harvest and as a Riserva : at least 50% Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Nerello mascalese and Perricone (individually or together), the rest may be other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Sicily
  • Rosato: at least 50% Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Nerello mascalese and Perricone (individually or together), the rest may be other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Sicily
  • Spumante bianco: at least 50% Catarratto, Inzolia, Chardonnay, Grecanico, Grillo, Carricante, Pinot nero, Moscato bianco and Zibibbo, the rest may be other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Sicily
  • Spumante rosato: at least 50% Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Nerello mascalese and Perricone (individually or together), the rest may be other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Sicily
  • Sicilia DOC, with reference to one of the following grape varieties: Inzolia, Grillo, Chardonnay, Catarratto, Carricante, Grecanico, Fiano, Damaschino, Viogner, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon blanc, Pinot grigio, Nero d'Avola, Perricone, Nerello cappuccio, Frappato, Nerello mascalese, Cabernet franc, Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot nero Nocera, Mondeuse, Carignano and Alicante. They must consist of at least 85% of the grape variety mentioned. The remaining maximum 15% may consist of other grape varieties of the corresponding color that are approved for cultivation in Sicily.

Sicilia bianco

  • Color : more or less intense straw yellow
  • Smell : fine, elegant
  • Taste : dry, balanced, characteristic
  • Alcohol content : at least 11.5% vol.
  • Acidity : at least 4.5 g / l
  • Dry extract : at least 16.0 g / l

Sicilia rosso

  • Color : more or less intense ruby ​​red
  • Smell : pleasant, fine
  • Taste : dry, harmonious, balanced
  • Alcohol content : at least 12.0% vol.

Sicilia rosato

  • Color : more or less intense pink
  • Smell : fine, elegant
  • Taste : dry, balanced, characteristic
  • Alcohol content : at least 12.0% vol.
  • Acidity : at least 4.5 g / l
  • Dry extract : at least 18.0 g / l

Sicilia Spumante Bianco

  • Perlage : fine and persistent
  • Color : more or less intense straw yellow
  • Smell : characteristic, fine
  • Taste : fresh, harmonious, from extra brut to dolce
  • Alcohol content : at least 10.5% vol.
  • Acidity : at least 5.0 g / l
  • Dry extract : at least 15.0 g / l
