Elters is a district of the municipality Hofbieber at an altitude of 468 m in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda . Steens , a hamlet made up of four farm groups and a hotel, belongs to Elters. The Hahnershof is also part of it.

The place is about 800 years old. In 1170 , the then abbot Bernhard von Fulda left a certain Villem Elderich land here for clearing . The village of Elters, whose name is clearly derived from Villem Elderich, soon emerged here. Today (2014) it has about 535 inhabitants.

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Elters was incorporated into the municipality of Hofbieber.

The head of the village is Christina Dehler.
