Emil Julius von Tresckow

Emil Julius von Tresckow (also: Tresckow II , * May 21, 1810 in Potsdam ; † July 18, 1905 in Quedlinburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and most recently the commander of the 18th cavalry brigade.

Life

origin

He comes from the noble family Tresckow and was a son of the Prussian lieutenant colonel a. D. Karl August von Tresckow (born August 27, 1779 in Neuermark , † October 18, 1845 in Minden ) and his wife Wilhelmine Charlotte Amalie, née Countess Henckel von Donnersmarck , divorced von Gansauge (born March 5, 1777 in Groß-Salze ; † December 22, 1847 in Burg ). His brother Alexander Bernhard (1805–1878) became a Prussian lieutenant general , his brother Hans Ludwig Udo von Tresckow general of the infantry.

Career

He joined the 7th Cuirassier Regiment on June 11, 1825 as a cuirassier. From 1825 to 1828 he was assigned to the division school in Magdeburg for training. At that time he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on December 14, 1827. After his return he was appointed second lieutenant on March 14, 1829, and was assigned as such on November 13, 1830. On March 1, 1844 he was transferred to the 26th Landwehr Regiment, where he was transferred to the 1st Battalion in Stendal , where he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on July 23, 1846. In 1848 he returned to the 7th Cuirassier Regiment, where he was appointed Rittmeister and squadron chief on April 13, 1850. Promoted to major on March 9, 1858, he joined the 4th Uhlan Regiment on March 27, 1858 as a regular staff officer. During the mobilization of 1859, he was transferred to the 4th Landwehr-Uhlan Regiment on June 14, 1859, and was released from this position on November 19, 1859. On May 12, 1860 he was transferred to the 1st Uhlan Regiment as commander. There he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 18, 1861, the head of the regiment was the Russian heir to the throne. Subsequently, on March 22, 1863, he was awarded the Red Eagle Order, 3rd class with ribbon , on March 19, 1864, with the Russian Order of St. Stanislaus, 2nd Class with a crown, and on June 18, 1864, the Russian Order of St. Anne 2nd class . He was promoted to colonel on June 18, 1865. When the Russian heir to the throne died, Tresckow was sent to his funeral, for which he received the diamonds for the Order of St. Anne on July 10th.

During the German War in 1866 he was wounded in a battle near Nachod, on September 20, 1866 he received the Pour le Mérite for the battle . On October 27, 1866, he was commissioned to accompany the Crown Prince to the wedding celebrations in St Petersburg. Shortly thereafter, on October 30, 1866, he was appointed commander of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade. From the Russian side he received the Order of St. Vladimir 3rd Class on November 25, 1866 .

After his return he was promoted to major general with patent on July 3, 1868 on July 23, 1868 and on November 18, 1868 transferred as commander of the 18th Cavalry Brigade. During the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War , he was assigned to the staff of the 4th Cavalry Division on July 18, 1870. On September 20, 1870 he was then appointed commander of the 4th Reserve Cavalry Brigade - consisting of the 1st and 3rd Reserve Uhlan Regiment. He fought near Weißenburg , Wörth and Sedan , where he earned the Iron Cross 2nd class . He also fought in the sieges of Neu-Breisach and Belfort and the battles at Pontarlier and Villersexel , for which he received the Iron Cross 1st Class . On April 4, 1871 he was transferred to the officers of the army, on May 23, 1871 he was commander of the 18th Cavalry Brigade.

On January 18, 1873, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves , on April 12, 1874, he was given the character of Lieutenant General, and he was retired. On July 26, 1873, he was put up for disposal with a pension . He died on July 18, 1905 in Quedlinburg.

Tresckow married on May 1, 1835 in Quedlinburg Albertine Friederike Luise Schaum (* July 14, 1815, † May 2, 1837), a daughter of the councilor Johann Friedrich Schaum. His son Louis Emil (born February 26, 1837, † July 24, 1899) was Dr. med. and Knappschaftsarzt and married Emilie Rau in 1878 (April 3, 1843, † 1889).
