Friedrich Wilhelm Emil Graf zu Dohna-Schlodien (born November 2, 1805 in Mallmitz , † November 18, 1877 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Emil was a son of Count Fabian zu Dohna (1777-1839) and his second wife Amalie, née Countess von Reichenbach-Goschütz (1784-1849). His half-brother Fabian (1802–1871) became district administrator of the Sagan district , his brother Alfred (1809–1859) was a politician and a member of the Prussian mansion .

Military career

Dohna graduated from the Gray Monastery high school and then attended the Berlin Cadet House . On April 8, 1824, he was aggregated as a second lieutenant in the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps of the Prussian Army and was assigned in mid-February 1826. By the end of April 1842 Dohna was promoted to Rittmeister and commander of the body squadron. This was followed by assignments as chief of the 4th Company and the 2nd Squadron. Promoted to major on April 15, 1852 , he was posted on February 3, 1855 as a military companion to Prince Albrecht of Prussia . On December 6, 1855 he was appointed commander of the 10th Hussar Regiment and in mid-October 1856 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . Dohna was given command of the 2nd Guards Uhlan Regiment on April 4, 1857 , was promoted to colonel in this capacity at the end of May 1857, and on June 14, 1858, under position à la suite of the regiment, was commander of the 1st Cavalry Brigade in Koenigsberg . On June 14, 1861 Dohna was awarded the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves and on March 17, 1863 was promoted to Major General. In the run-up to the German War , on May 20, 1866, he became commander of the combined Landwehr-Cavalry Division of the I. Reserve Army Corps, which he then led in the campaign. On September 17, 1866 Dohna was transferred to the officers of the army, promoted on 20 September 1866. Lieutenant General and finally on April 11, 1867 Board for disposition made.

He died in Berlin on November 18, 1877.

In his assessment, his commander wrote in 1847: “Operates the service with caution and liveliness, and this summer as well as during the autumn maneuvers he has certainly led the body squadron. This is in exemplary order. Is completely prepared to be the squadron chief. "

On June 6, 1835, he married Marianne Countess zu Dohna-Schlobitten (1812–1895). The couple had several children:
