Department of Energy

An energy ministry is a ministry , i.e. the highest government authority of a state or federal state, that deals with questions of energy policy and the economic energy industry.

Tasks and activities

The main tasks of an energy ministry are to support the construction of the infrastructure for a secure energy supply , the regulation and monitoring of the energy markets and the limitation of the negative side effects of energy production on the environment and people. In connection with global warming , the transformation of the energy industry away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energies is increasingly the focus in many countries. By issuing appropriate laws and launching funding programs, climate-friendly energy generation technologies and energy saving are to be promoted.

In many countries / states there is no separate ministry for the energy department , but it is combined with others, often the ministry of economics , the ministry of the environment or the ministry of mining . Sometimes the responsibility for energy is split between different ministries.

Many energy ministries have delegated some of their tasks to an energy agency that reports to the ministry.
