Enoch Svantenius (the younger)

Enoch Svantenius , called the Younger or III. , also Enoch Schwante (born March 11, 1652 in Rostock ; † July 23, 1717 there ) was a German educator and poet.

Life

He was born as the son of the archdeacon of the same name and later professor of theology at the University of Rostock Enoch Schwante the Elder. Ä. (1618–1674) and Katharina Tarnow.

After studying in Kiel and Rostock , he received his master's degree in 1671 . In 1678 he received the chair for poetics at the University of Rostock. In 1686 the City Council of Lübeck appointed him to succeed Abraham Hinckelmann as Rector of the Katharineum .

Schwante is buried in Lübeck's Katharinenkirche , where he received a stately epitaph on the first southern pillar of the central nave .

His extensive work ( Zedler lists 109 fonts) includes for the most part program and personal fonts , of which only a small part has survived.
