Encyclopedia of Law and Political Science

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The encyclopedia of law and political science has been published by Springer-Verlag , Berlin , since 1922 in two sections. It was founded by Franz von Liszt and Walter Kaskel before the First World War . The law department was published by Eduard Kohlrausch and Walter Kaskel, the political science department by Arthur Spiethoff . Later editors were Horst Albach , Heinrich Honsell , Wolfgang Kunkel , Peter Lerche , Dieter Nörr and Hans Peters.

Basics

The work, which had initially been planned as a continuation of the Encyclopedia of Jurisprudence by Karl Birkemeyer, was largely completed at the beginning of the First World War , but it was only able to appear some time afterwards. In terms of content, the work encompassed not only law , as with Birkemeyer , but also political science .

It should show the students in the most succinct form ... the subject matter presented at the universities, provide an overview and encourage them to work . Initially, only narrow booklets with short descriptions were published. However, after the global economic crisis had been overcome in 1929, the other parts could be published in a much expanded form than was initially intended. Therefore, the issues published before July 1, 1931 were sold with an emergency discount of 10%. Since then, the individual works have grown significantly and in some cases have doubled their original size in several editions.

The volumes published before the Second World War followed a systematic structure, but this has not been continued since the 1950s. The volumes have not been counted since then.
