Erika Streit (born March 1, 1910 in Kutterschitz ; † June 2, 2011 in Kilchberg ZH ) was a Swiss painter , graphic artist and draftsman .

life and work

Erika Streit was born in 1910 in Bohemia to Swiss parents . From 1927 to 1930 she studied at the Dresden Academy of Applied Arts under Carl Rade, among others . From 1930 to 1933 she studied at the Dresden Art Academy . There she attended the classes of Richard Müller , Ferdinand Dorsch , Max Feldbauer and Otto Dix , but also learned anatomy from Hermann Dittrich. After Dix was released from the public institution, he continued to give her private lessons.

Streit had contacts with artists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Cuno Amiet . 1934–1938 various study visits to Paris followed . There she came into contact with the work of Pablo Picasso , Aristide Maillol and other contemporaries. In 1938 Erika Streit began painting ceramics , but also created her own shapes.

In 1943 she moved to Switzerland due to the war , and since then the artist has lived in Kilchberg near Zurich. From the mid-1960s until after 1996 her occupation was mainly gravure printing and the beeswax drawings she developed. Her extensive work has been administered and inventoried by the Erika Streit Foundation since 2001.

In 1930 Erika Streit was portrayed several times by the photographer Hugo Erfurth , and in 1934 also by the graphic artist and painter Hans Theo Richter .

At the beginning of her 102nd year, Erika Streit died in early summer 2011 in Kilchberg on Lake Zurich.
