Ernst Leo von Holwede (born October 11, 1802 in Falkenberg , † August 2, 1872 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of Königsberg .

Life

origin

His parents were Ferdinand Friedrich Ludwig von Holwede (1759-1817) and his wife Maria Anette, née Henrion, a widowed Pflugradt. His father was a Rittmeister a. D. in the Gens d'armes regiment , district administrator of the Sternberg district and knighthood councilor.

Military career

On March 19, 1818, Holwede joined the Guard Rifle Battalion of the Prussian Army as a rifleman and was promoted to aggregate Prime Lieutenant by mid-February 1829 . With promotion to captain , he rose to company commander on April 14, 1841 . From 1844 to 1847 he was assigned to the Examination Board for Cavalry Firearms. In 1848 he took part in the campaign against Denmark , was wounded in the battle near Schleswig and fought near Düppel and before Friedricia. On September 19, 1849 he was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords. On November 21, 1848, he was transferred as a major to the Guards Jäger Battalion and on October 30, 1851 appointed commander of the 5th Jäger Battalion . On July 13, 1854, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on July 26, 1856, he was transferred to the 29th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander. He was transferred to the Fusilier Battalion as commander on April 14, 1857.

On June 15, 1857, Holwede was transferred to the 23rd Infantry Regiment as commander. There he was promoted to colonel on May 22, 1858, and on October 3, 1859 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd Class with Swords on the Ring . On September 14, 1860 he became the commander of the 17th Infantry Brigade, and he was placed à la suite of the 23rd Infantry Regiment. There he was appointed major general on October 18, 1861. On January 18, 1863, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves and Swords . On June 25, 1864, he was appointed lieutenant general and commander of the Königsberg Fortress, and was also entrusted with the management of the Königsberg government.
