Erol Bilgin

Erol Bilgin (born February 20, 1987 in Kütahya ) is a Turkish weightlifter . He was European champion in featherweight duel in 2009 and 2010 .

Career

Erol Bilgin started lifting weights at the Kütahya Gençlik Merkisi SK sports club in 1998 . After two years he switched to the Tarim Kredi SK sports club. The 1.59 meter tall athlete has been competing in featherweight since he was senior, the weight class up to 62 kg body weight. His trainer is Hilmi Pekünlü.

From 2002 to 2004 he was very successful as a junior and won several European championship titles in this age group. At the 2004 Junior World Championships in Minsk , he won the silver medal in bantamweight with 250 kg (115-135) in a duel behind the Chinese Li Zheng, who reached 272.5 kg (120-142.5).

In 2005 he started for the first time at the European Senior Championship. He finished in Sofia in bantam weight with 265 kg (120-145) in a duel behind his compatriot Sedat Artuç , who came to 275 kg (125-150), the 2nd place. In 2006 he reached the 2nd place at the University World Championships in Izmir in featherweight with 285 kg (125-160). In 2008 Erol Bilgin finished 2nd again at the European Championships in Lignano , but this time in the featherweight division. After Erol Bilgin was successful at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara in 2009 in featherweight with 293 kg (138-155), he then won his first European title in a duel in Bucharest . Bilgin was in the squad of the Turkish team for the 2012 Summer Olympics and finished eighth in the featherweight division. A follow-up examination of the urine samples revealed that he had started with a cocktail of stanozolol and dehydrochloromethyltestosterone and he was initially temporarily suspended.
