Eternal Gray is a technical death metal band from Tel Aviv , Israel that was formed in 2001.

history

Founding and Kindless (2001-2003)

The band was formed in 2001, by Eyal Glottman (electric guitar, vocals), Dory Bar-Or (electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard) and Eran Asias (drums, percussion) and describes itself as "Dark- Death -Metal -Band ".

In 2002 the band flew to Sweden to record their debut album. The album was recorded at Abyss Studio with producer Tommy Tägtgren . Guest singers were Peter Tägegren ( Hypocrisy , Bloodbath ) and Marcel Schirmer ( Destruction ).

The album called Kindless was released through Raven Music and Listenable Records in August 2002. The release of the album was followed by several appearances in Israel. They also played as the opening band for bands such as Destruction, Megadeth , Dismember , Behemoth and Rotting Christ . In 2003 bassist Gil Ben-Ya'akov ( Breorn ) joined the band to support Dory Bar-Or so that he could only devote himself to playing the keyboard and the electric guitar.

Line-up change, Deeds of Hate , Numb and Pause (2004–2007)

In 2004 the band re-entered the studio to begin work on their next album, Your Gods, My Enemies . Shortly afterwards, however, singer, guitarist and founding member Eyal Glottman left the band and took all of the material he had written with him. Not long after, a short time later drummer Eran Asias left the band and was replaced by Roy Chen ( Breorn ) to complete the recordings.

In 2005 the recordings for the EP Deeds of Hate were completed. It was planned to release this in a limited edition of 1000 pieces, but the band decided against the release at the last moment. Towards the end of 2005 the line-up of the band changed again. Singer Oren Balbus ( Matricide ), guitarist Auria Sapir and drummer Dror Goldstein ( Abed ) joined the band. With this line-up, the band recorded a cover version of the song Blinded by Fear (originally by At the Gates ) for an At-the-Gates tribute album . After a few more changes in the line-up, they recorded the EP Numb , which has also not been released before. It was later announced that Deeds of Hate and Numb contained the same songs, but the band was not happy with the recording quality of the first EP.

The band played their last gig so far in 2006 and then took a break. Guitarist and founding member Dory Bar-Or moved to Germany to focus on his further musical career. In the meantime he wrote new material and kept returning to Israel to rehearse the material he had developed with the other members. At the end of 2007 this process was completed and the band decided to start recording the new material.

Your Gods, My Enemies (since 2007)

In March 2007 the band flew to Sweden to record their second album Your Gods, My Enemies . The recordings took place with producer Pelle Seather in the Studio Underground .

In May 2009 the album was mastered by Göran Finnberg , who had previously worked with bands like Opeth and Soilwork . The band then announced that there would be some gigs for the album's release and that the album's official title would be Your Gods, My Enemies .

On January 7th, 2010 the band had their first appearance in 3 years. The band also played a few songs from the new album, which was not released at the time.

On December 31, 2010, the album Your Gods, My Enemies was released as a limited version on a USB stick . It contained the nine new songs from the album, as well as bonus material such as demos, lyrics and photo galleries. The band also announced that the album would be released on CD worldwide in 2011. The release will be followed by a tour of Europe .

On May 17, 2011 it was announced that the band had signed a contract with the French extreme metal label Season of Mist to release the album Your Gods, My Enemies on the label in autumn 2011.

On July 20, 2011, Season of Mist announced that the album would be released on CD on October 14, 2011 in Europe and October 18 in North America .

On August 26, 2011, the band performed with other Israeli groups such as Phantom Pain and Spawn of Evil to support the band Vader on their only gig in Israel.

style

The technically demanding playing style of the band is particularly characteristic. The pieces vary in speed from medium to fast tempo, with the use of blastbeats being particularly characteristic . Eternal Gray is compared to the band Decapitated .
