Günther Paulus (born October 2, 1898 in Berlin ; † September 8, 1976 in Tegernsee ) was a German architect who worked mainly in Berlin and the surrounding area.

Günther Paulus was born on October 2, 1898 as the first child of the architect Ernst Paulus in Berlin. From 1904 to 1910 he attended the Royal Luisen High School in Berlin. In October 1910, Günther Paulus moved to the Arndt-Gymnasium in Dahlem , which was not established until 1909 and which saw itself as a humanistic boys' educational institution.

In the First World War, Paul was drafted and entered in June 1916 in the royal Prussian Lancers - Regiment . No. 11 "Graf Haeseler" as a cadet one. In December 1917 he obtained the officer's license . During his assignment in France , Paul suffered a wound and received the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class for "bravery in front of the enemy" . In January 1918 he passed the Abitur at the Arndt Gymnasium. This special " war participant examination" consisted of the written exams in the subjects German, mathematics, Greek and Latin and an extensive oral examination. In 1919 Paulus became a lieutenant in Uhlan Regiment No. 11.

In the same year enrolled settling for the field of study architecture at the Grand Ducal Baden "Friedericiana" Institute of Technology in Karlsruhe , whose teachings still very conservative by the 1915 deceased architect and architectural theorist Friedrich Ostendorf was marked. The following year Paulus was employed in the architectural office of Alfred Breslauer and Paul Salinger and became a member of the Berlin Architects' Association . On 13 July 1923, he put his dissertation entitled The architectural design elements of gardens between the Rhine and Main before and doctorate then on 22 May 1924, the Technical University of Darmstadt for Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.).

On April 1, 1924, Günther Paulus became a partner in his father's architectural office, which from then on operated under the name of "Ernst and Günther Paulus". In addition, in 1932 and 1935 both founded the " Pflug und Egge " Landsiedlungs-Gesellschaft mbH and the "Haus und Garten" Wohnungsbau-Gesellschaft mbH . As a freelance architect, he became a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA). On May 6, 1933, he married Irmgard Heydenreich, and on March 4, 1934, their first son, Klaus-Günther, was born in Berlin-Dahlem. He was followed on April 15, 1935 by the son Rolf-Dieter, on June 11, 1941 by the son Goetz-Hartmut and on September 22, 1942 by the only daughter, Irmgard-Verena.

With the beginning of the war in 1939 Günther Paulus was drafted and served in various theaters of war, such as B. Finland and Germany, used as liaison officer . After the war ended in 1945, the family moved to Switzerland , where they initially stayed in various camps until Paulus got a job with the Swiss architect Max Kopp in Zurich . In 1946 Paulus became an assistant for architectural drawing and architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich with Friedrich Hess .

In 1946 the family emigrated to Brazil . There he became co-owner of the Galieria Paulista de Modas in 1950 , which had been founded in São Paulo by the family of his wife Irmgard in the 19th century . In 1953 the furniture factory Industrias Paulus and in 1955 the architecture and construction office Construtora Paulus were also founded in São Paulo. In 1968 Günther Paulus returned to Germany and settled in Tegernsee , where he died on September 8, 1976.
