Ethiopie is a French benefit song for Africa , it was recorded in 1985 by the band Chanteurs Sans Frontières , which consists of numerous well-known French musicians , the initiator of the project was Renaud . After Great Britain with Band Aid ( Do They Know It's Christmas? ), The USA with USA for Africa ( We Are the World ) and Germany with the Band für Afrika ( Nackt im Wind ) had started similar projects, the French wanted to use it of a song to collect money for Africa, in this case especially for the non-governmental organization Doctors Without Borders (in French Médecins sans frontières , hence the band name).
The song was written by Franck Langolff (music) and Renaud (text).
The single sold two million times within the first four months.
