Eugenio Cardinal Dal Corso PSDP (born May 16, 1939 in Lugo , Province of Ravenna , Italy ) is an Italian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Benguela .

Life

Eugenio Dal Corso joined the religious community of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence , took the religious vows in 1956 and was ordained a priest on July 7, 1963 . After working as a theology professor in Rome from 1967 to 1968 and then as pastor in various parishes in Italy, he was sent as a missionary to Argentina in January 1975 , where he was responsible for the training of young priests. In March 1986 he went to Angola and was instrumental in setting up the Uije seminary . In 1991 he became the Provincial of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence in Angola.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Saurimo on December 15, 1995 . He received his episcopal ordination from the Apostolic Delegate in Angola and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to São Tomé and Príncipe , Félix del Blanco Prieto , on March 3 of the next year; Co- consecrators were Andrea Veggio , Auxiliary Bishop in Verona , and Pedro Marcos Ribeiro da Costa , Bishop of Saurimo.

When Pedro Marcos Ribeiro da Costas retired on January 15, 1997, he succeeded him in the office of Bishop of Saurimo. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 18, 2008 Bishop of Benguela . For reasons of age, he resigned from this office in early 2018, and was succeeded by António Francisco Jaca .

On September 1, 2019, Pope Francis announced that he would be admitted to the College of Cardinals as a cardinal priest in the consistory of October 5, 2019 . Because he has exceeded the age limit, he is not entitled to vote in a conclave . When the cardinal was created, the Pope assigned him the titular church of Sant'Anastasia al Palatino on October 5, 2019 . The takeover of his titular church took place on November 17, 2019.
