The Evangelical Church Dörrenbach is a sacred building of the Evangelical Church Community in Dörrenbach in Saarland , a district of the district town of St. Wendel . The parish is assigned to the Saar Ost parish of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The origins of the essentially Romanesque church go back to the 13th century. The oldest preserved part of the church is a fortified tower built church tower , which served as a shelter for the population. In the 15th century the upper floor of the tower was raised and received a gable roof . The church became evangelical after the introduction of the Reformation in the county of Nassau-Saarbrücken in 1575.

The church nave , which dates from the late Gothic period, was given its present shape in 1718 as part of reconstruction and expansion measures by Count Friedrich Ludwig von Ottweiler and Saarbrücken.

Furnishing

Which will enter hall church with choir tower on the west by a portal with pointed arch -Einfassung. The nave has arched windows .

The ground floor of the tower also represents the sanctuary and is spanned by a ribbed vault. In addition to the altar, this room also houses two windows . On the one hand a pointed arch window with a pictorial representation showing a scene from the Gospel of John ( JohnEU ). This window was in the Second World War by vandalism destroyed, but restored. The other window, which is in the right side wall of the chancel, is of an older date and shows a discreetly incorporated Luther rose in the lower part . Originally there was also an " oculus " in the chancel. Inside, this opening has disappeared under plaster , but is still visible on the exterior of the tower.

From sandstone crafted pulpit dates from around 1600 and is equipped with tracery decorated. During renovation work in 1977, the pulpit was lowered and moved to the left side next to the chancel. On the right-hand side next to the chancel, a baptismal font was placed in the course of the church renovation in 1977 . It is older than the nave and was excavated in 1719 when the rectory next to the church was being built. A stone relief from Roman times has been embedded in the wall above the baptismal font since 1977 . It is probably a part that originally belonged to a Roman tomb .

The windows in the nave were installed in 1977.
