Extraliga (Slovakia, chess) 1996/97

The Extra League 1996/97 was the fifth season of the Slovak Extra League in chess .

Participating teams and mode

With ŠK Slovan Bratislava , ŠK Medea Martin , ŠK Slovan Levice , ŠK Lokomotíva Trnava , ŠK Radegast Dunaj Bratislava , ŠK Tatran Prešov , ŠK Trenčín , ŠO TJ Slávia UPJŠ Košice and 1.ŠK Rimavská Sobota, the first nine of the Extraliga 1995 / 96 as well as ŠK Mladosť Nové Zámky , TJ Slávia CAISSA Čadca and TJ Spartak Vihorlat Snina . The twelve teams played a simple round-robin tournament on eight boards.The number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the direct comparison and then the number of board points decided on the placement (one point for a winning game, half a point for a draw game, no point for a losing game). The last two were relegated and replaced by the winners of the two seasons of the 1st league.

Season course

In the title fight, the defending champion ŠK Slovan Bratislava and his local rival ŠK Radegast Dunaj Bratislava fought a duel, which Dunaj saw in a direct comparison with the victory. TJ Spartak Vihorlat Snina was determined to be relegated early, and TJ Slávia CAISSA Čadca also had little theoretical chances of staying up before the last round and was ultimately relegated.
