General data

The development of the type 0 ship can be traced back to a new building program by HADAG that was started in the late 1940s to replace the shipping company's outdated fleet . Five main ship types were planned, which were tailored to specific requirements of port traffic. The type 0 was intended for the feeder service to seagoing vessels lying on dolphins without going ashore , called dinghy guide service, and the scheduled use on port ferry lines with low passenger numbers. The ships were named after historical events in the port of Hamburg.

Technical specifications

The launches were 18.50 meters long and 5.00 meters wide. The draft was 1.41 meters, the side height 1.95 meters. The ships were built flat so that they could pass under the bridges in the harbor. They had a riveted hull made of steel . The first ship had an open deck amidships with a cabin at the stern , the other two a closed deck structure and a small open deck at the stern.

The launch was diesel-electric . The main engine was a MAN - marine diesel engine of the type W6V with eight cylinders operating at a speed of a power output of 172 860 rpm  horsepower reached. The drive generator and drive motor came from AEG . The generator had a nominal voltage of 440  volts and an output of 100  kilowatts  (KW). The drive motor developed 120 hp and reached a maximum speed of 1500 rpm, which was reduced to 450 rpm by a gearbox from the manufacturer Lohmann & Stolterfoht . The ships were propelled by a propeller made by Theodor Zeise with a diameter of 1.17 meters and reached a speed of 9.5  knots .

The DC electrical system had a voltage of 110 volts. A generator from AEG was installed, which had a nominal voltage of 115 volts and a nominal electrical power of 8 KW at 2500 / min and 6 KW at 1560 / min. For the electrical supply when the main engine was at a standstill, a small auxiliary diesel engine with an output of 16 HP at 1000 rpm of the type MWM KDW 415 Z was available, which drove a generator with an output of 10 KW.

Ships

The three ships were built by different shipyards in Hamburg. The Kehrwieder , named after an island at the western end of the Speicherstadt , was built under construction number 72 at the Pohl & Jozwiak shipyard . It was launched on July 18, 1953, was delivered to HADAG on August 4, 1953 and entered in the inland shipping register on August 6, 1953 under the number 18 930 . The launch was renamed on June 12, 1960 in Reiherstieg , a tributary of the Elbe . The baumall , named after part of the Hamburg ramparts , was built by Gustav Wolkau under construction number 1090, was launched on June 15, 1954 and was delivered on February 26, 1955 and entered in the inland shipping register with the number 19 155. The third ship was christened the port gate . Hafentor refers to the upper, eastern part of the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken . The port gate was built at the Harburg shipyard Scheel & Jöhnk . The hull number was 379.The launch was delivered on October 29, 1955, and it was entered in the inland shipping register under number 19 143 on November 1, 1955.

As part of a modernization program, the barges were decommissioned and sold to Shiptrade Corporation SA, Piraeus , on December 15, 1975 and shipped to Nigeria by the new owner .
