The management body of the front u. Military Transport Air Force (FO FMTFK) was a large association of the air forces (LSK) of the East German NVA and was directly subordinate to the LSK / LV command.
assignment
The order of the FO FMTFK was derived from the overall order of the NVA LSK and consisted of close air support for the other armed forces, "airborne reconnaissance" and the provision of air transport capacity.
history
From December 1981, a command body of the front and army aviation forces (FOFAFK) was set up at the LSK / LV command , which was operational in 1982 and was stationed together with the LSK / LV command in the area of the Barnim barracks in Strausberg (Eggersdorf).
From 1984 the FOFAFK was given the final designation of the Commanding Body Front and Military Transport Air Force (FOFMTFK) after the two combat helicopter squadrons KHG-3 and KHG-5 had been handed over to the military district commands MB-III and MB-V of the land forces.
As a staff, the command body was primarily responsible for training front-line, army and transport aviation forces, had no command in the event of a defense and, according to its own understanding, was not considered to be the command of a division.
The management body had a command point in the basement of its headquarters building, which was manned by a crew on duty on a 24-hour basis, in order to conduct daily flight service and training.
When higher levels of combat readiness were triggered (war or maneuvering), the command body moved parts of the staff to the Ranzig / Beeskow bunker and moved to its command post 2 . According to Directive 1/85, the JBG-37, JBG-77, MFG-28, TAFS-47, TAFS-87 were simultaneously relocated under Soviet orders from the 16th Air Army. From the remaining transport air force, the management body military transport air force Ranzig / Besskow was formed. This involved additional subordination of the helicopter squadron 16 from the border troops and the helicopter training squadron 35 in Briest from the OHS LSK / LV to the new FOMTFK.
With the decommissioning of the NVA in October 1990, the division command was dissolved. The legal successor was the 5th Air Force Division of the Bundeswehr .
