Fürnitz ( Slov .: Brnca ) is a village and a cadastral municipality in the municipality of Finkenstein am Faaker See with 1479 inhabitants in the Villach-Land district in Carinthia , Austria .

Fürnitz is located south of the Graschelitzen and the Gail around 3.5 km west of the community capital Finkenstein am Faaker See.
History and name
In a document from 1090, the place "Furniz" belonging to the parish Maria Gail is mentioned for the first time. In a tithe directory of the diocese of Aquileia from 1296, “Vernz” and a “pleban. de Vernz ”(Fürnitz and pastor of Fürnitz), so at this time Fürnitz was already a parish recognized by the bishop. In 1250 the St. was Michael consecrated church built.
The name Fürnitz comes from the Slovenian Brnca (to brnica = morass, muddy soil) which means something like "Steg area" or "Stegbach". It suggests that due to its proximity to the Gail, the place was probably only accessible via footbridges or bridges.

The Rosental Straße runs through Fürnitz and joins the Kärntner Straße to the west of the village . On the junction Villach-Warmbad Fürnitz is to the south highway connected.
The station Fürnitz is located on the Rudolfsbahngürtel and that of the line S4 train Carinthia operated. There are five bus stops in town, which are served by lines 5194 and 8572.
To the north of the town center is the Villach-Süd marshalling yard, built around 1990 , where around 2,800 wagons are handled every day. A logistics center is being built around the marshalling yard.
