The international fairy tale film festival fabulix (in short: fabulix , or also: Fabulix ) is an international film festival for children, young people and adults, with a focus on families. It has been taking place in Annaberg-Buchholz in the Ore Mountains since 2017 and shows current international fairy tale film productions as well as classics of this genre in different categories (feature film, short film, animation). The organizer is the city of Annaberg-Buchholz. The international film festival is led by festival director Filip Albrecht , who is the founding father of the festival together with the city's mayor, Rolf Schmidt. fabulix is one of the first fairy tale film festivals worldwide.

At the beginning of 2016 the idea arose for the first time in the city of Annaberg-Buchholz, which has so far been known primarily for the winter season and the nationally popular Christmas market, to establish and re-launch a high-quality event in summer as well. The project was officially launched in autumn 2016 and presented to the general public at a press conference in March 2017.

The patronage was taken over by Georg and Alexandra zur Lippe, and it was decided to appoint a different honorary president every year; the choice for the first year of the festival fell on the actress Christel Bodenstein . In June 2017, further details about the festival premiere in August 2017 were announced.

First vintage 2017

The first year of the festival took place from 23 to 27 August 2017 in and around Annaberg-Buchholz. The main venues were the city's market square, which was specially roofed for the festival, the old town terraces, the Erzhammer, the city library, the St. Anne's Church , the Gloria cinema, the St. Marien mountain church , the Manufactory of Dreams , as well as the festival hall and the town hall . There were around 80 film screenings and 150 accompanying events (including workshops, readings, theater, school competitions and exhibitions). The entire city center was closed to car traffic during the festival and converted into a pedestrian zone. fabulix was visited by over 20,000 guests from home and abroad during the five days.

In 2017 the festival was hosted by Christel Bodenstein , Michael Schanze , Helena Vondráčková , Uschi Reich , Ivan Pokorný , Iva Procházková , Pavel Trávníček , Ingelore König , Kurt Seggewiß , Eva Josefíková , Naoshi Takahashi , Ingolf Huhn , Hasso von Lenski , Ella Endlich , Franziska Pohlmann , Beate Werner , Josephine Hoppe , Christian Steyer , Michael Harbauer , Ben (singer and presenter of KiKA ), Irene Wellershoff , as well as various filmmakers, actors, producers and representatives of television and radio stations.

Lifetime Achievement Award

The festival's Lifetime Achievement Award was given to actor Rolf Hoppe in 2017 . His daughter Josephine Hoppe received it on August 25th. The laudator was the Czech actor and film son Rolf Hoppes from The Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella , Pavel Trávniček.

The festival's winning film is always nominated as a jury by the festival visitors. The winner in 2017 with 889 points was the Czech fairy tale film The Seven Ravens , second place went to the cult film Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella , and third place went to the DEFA film The Singing, Sounding Tree .

On August 24, 2017, the first international symposium on the past, present and future of fairy tale films took place in the town hall as part of the festival , with 25 participants from the film industry. This symposium did not take place publicly, as new film projects that were not yet known were discussed here.

As part of the closing ceremony at the end of the festival on August 27, a fairy tale parade took place through Annaberg's historic old town, with several thousand participants, some in historical costumes and robes.

In cooperation with the Barrandov film studios , an exhibition of around 100 fairytale film costumes and props took place in the festival hall, which was inaugurated by Helena Vondráčková on August 24th. a. the original costumes from the film Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella were shown. As these pieces are Czech national cultural heritage, the festival received a special permit from the Czech Ministry of Culture. In addition, the original costumes from films such as Devil's Luck or The Insanely Sad Princess could be seen at the exhibition .

As part of the festival, more than 50 years after its creation, the film The Little Prince , believed to be lost, was shown, the first color film on GDR television, directed by Konrad Wolf .

fabulix is the first film festival in Europe with its own festival anthem . This is entitled Come with me to fairy tale land and is sung by Helena Vondráčková. The authors of the song are festival director Filip Albrecht and musical composer Michal David.

In May 2018 it was announced that the festival will be continued and will take place again from August 28 to September 1, 2019 under the motto "Fairytale films of silver and gold". The market will once again be the event center, plus the old town terrace, the lower church square and the Münzviertel. There will be a total of four film projection areas instead of the previous three. According to the organizers, another important point that remains is to bring internationally known actors, directors and producers to Annaberg-Buchholz. There should be another school competition, which could be imagined in the entire Erzgebirge district.
