history

The first written mention of Falkenau as Falkenawe is to the year 1378. The place was probably founded around 1157. From 1453, it was mainly limestone that was quarried in Falkenau. First for the Chemnitz city wall and later for the Augustusburg hunting lodge . Lime mining on the Plauberg and wood rafting on the Flöha river existed for over 300 years. In the 16th and 17th centuries, silver mining was carried out in up to 29 tunnels in Falkenau . Originally laid out as a forest hoof village in the Augustusburg office , it was largely redesigned by industrialization in the second half of the 19th century, including the establishment of a cotton mill. The first cotton spinning mill was built in 1821. Another upswing came with the opening of the Annaberg-Buchholz and Bf-Flöha railway (1866), the Dresden – Werdau railway (Chemnitz – Freiberg section, opened in 1869) and the Reitzenhain – Flöha railway (1875). In the district of Hetzdorf, the Hetzdorf Viaduct , which was used as a railway bridge until 1992, was built in 1869 .

Until 1856, Falkenau belonged as an official village to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Augustusburg , formerly "Office Schellenberg". After the end of the Saxon constitution of offices in 1856, Falkenau was under the jurisdiction of the Augustusburg court office and, from 1875, of the Flöha administration . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Falkenau with its district of Hetzdorf came to the district of Flöha in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Flöha from 1990 and in 1994 in the Freiberg district or 2008 in the district of central Saxony. The incorporation of Falkenau with Hetzdorf to Flöha took place on October 1, 2011.

politics

The municipality of Falkenau and Flöha formed the administrative community Flöha since 1995 . Most of the administrative tasks have therefore already been carried out by the Flöha city administration. On June 29 (Falkenau) and June 30 (Flöha), the municipal and city councils of Falkenau and Flöha decided to merge voluntarily on October 1, 2011. Six municipal council members then went to the city council in Flöha, and five members formed the local council of Falkenau.

Distribution of seats

At the same time as the 2014 local elections, the Falkenau local council was elected. It consists of six members and the local mayor who is entitled to vote as his chairman:
