Fatudere ( Fatu Dere , Watu Dere , Watudere ) is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Viqueque ( municipality of Viqueque ).

Before the 2015 regional reform, Fatudere had an area of ​​35.81 km². Now it is 22.28 km². The Suco is located in the southeast of the administrative office Viqueque on the banks of the Timor Sea . To the west is the Suco Maluru , north of the Suco Caraubalo and east of the Suco Uma Uain Leten . The Bularan River flows to the west of Fatudere , the Benaro flows into the Timor Sea to the south and the Beaco River to the southeast . There are some caves near the Beaco. Cape Ponta Deilubun ( Ponta Beaco ) is located in the southeast of Sucos .

The largest settlement in Suco Fatudere is Beaco ( Beacu ) and consists of the districts Loho Oan and Maluro . Beaco has a medical station and a primary school, the Escola Primaria Fatudere . There is an anchorage off the coast, the only one in the entire municipality. A bridge spans the small river of the same name in Beaco. One of the most important roads in East Timor, which runs along the southern coast, passes through it.

In the Suco there are the three Aldeias Aidilalita , Barabeto and Culale .

Residents

645 inhabitants live in the Suco (2015), of which 339 are men and 306 women. The population density is 29.0 inhabitants / km². There are 130 households in the Suco. 72% of the population name Makasae as their mother tongue. Over 21% speak Naueti , 4% Tetum Terik and over 2% Tetum Prasa .

The Naueti speakers in Beaco form a linguistic island, apart from the other areas in which Naueti dominates. Oral traditions from Daralari (Suco Babulo ) say they come from there. Their ancestors were brought to the coast as prisoners of war to be exchanged for firearms.

In 1974 Indonesian troops landed near Beaco at the beginning of the invasion of East Timor and continued to advance towards Baucau .

During Operation Donner in 1999, numerous residents of Viqueque were forcibly evacuated by the Indonesians. On September 20, four ships left Beaco with about 4,000 civilians on board and took them to West Timor .

After Xanana Gusmão took office as the new Prime Minister after the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2007 , there was also unrest in Fatudere due to supporters of the defeated FRETILIN .

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Augusto Pereira elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected.
