Location and promotion opportunities

The Fechtebenkogel is a peak in the eastern part of the Tauern main ridge, within the Venediger group. It is located in the Hohe Tauern National Park , with the surrounding area on the Tyrolean side being owned by the Austrian Alpine Association. The Fechtebenkogel is located between the Dichtenkogel ( 2839  m above sea level ) in the southwest and the Felbertauernkogel ( 2988  m above sea level ) in the north. The Fechtebenkogel is separated from the Dichtenkogel (also known as Weißeneck) by the Dichtenscharte ( 2629  m above sea level ) and the Weißeneckscharte further east ( 2637  m above sea level ); the notch to the Felbertauernkogel in the north is known as the Fechtebenscharte ( 2755  m above sea level ) above mentioned ). The Dichtensee is located between the Fechtebenkogel and Dichtenkogel.

The first ascent of the Fechtebenkogel has not been recorded; W. Brandenstein crossed the ridge for the first time on June 23, 1926 via the south and north ridge. The normal route to the Fechtebenkogel runs from the St. Pöltner Hütte over the St. Pöltner Westweg ( Venediger Höhenweg ) and over the south ridge, with some points having a difficulty of UIAA II . Furthermore, the Fechtebenkogel can be climbed from the Fechtebenscharte via the north ridge ( UIAA II ). Other variants such as the west ridge, the north wall, the north channel and the east wall already show difficulties between UIAA III and UIAA IV- .
