The St. Pöltner Hütte is an alpine club hut of the St. Pölten section of the Austrian Alpine Club in the state of Salzburg on the border with Tyrol (East Tyrol). It is located in the Venediger group at 2,481  m above sea level. A. west above the top of the Felber Tauern pass ( 2465  m above sea level ), which forms the transition to the Granatspitz group.

The 380 kV line between Kaprun and Lienz runs directly above the hut . On the saddle is the Tauern Cross, consecrated in 1952, in front of which a mountain mass is celebrated on the last Sunday in August.

history

The construction of the St. Pöltner Ost- and Westweg and the determination of the location of the St. Pöltner Hütte on the Felber Tauern go back to the initiative of Section Chairman Hans Donabaum. The refuge is still a base for the popular alpine high-altitude trails that continue along the alpine ridge to today's Berghotel Rudolfshütte and the New Prager Hut . The establishment of the St. Pöltner Ostweg was a major achievement in terms of Alpine history. The path is still the longest (25 km on the main Alpine ridge ) connecting huts in the Eastern Alps . The Donabaumscharte high in the Landeck Valley is still reminiscent of the achievements of the St. Pölten mountain pioneer, who led the AV St. Pölten as chairman until 1920.

Many difficulties arose during the construction of the refuge on the Felber Tauern. When the developer ran into financial bottlenecks in 1913, the section had to negotiate with the creditors and purchase all the building materials again. After the outbreak of World War I , further construction was no longer possible until 1920. The building history did not end until August 3, 1922. According to Friedrich Striberny, Prelate Franz Huber (chairman 1920–1922) and above all Franz Schmid, master builder Ferdinand Weinmann and Hermann Kienzl (chairman 1922–1935) were the people who made sure that the Construction could be financed and realized. The young team, founded in 1919–1920, actively participated in the association's work and was also extremely active in the construction of the Westweg, which was completed in 1925 and has since connected the Venediger group with the Glockner group .

On August 22, 1934, a robbery and murder occurred at the hut, to which the high school teacher and youth leader Karl Clemens Fürst (25 years) and the hut manager and mountain guide Friedl Steinberger (64 years) fell victim. The two perpetrators were arrested a little later, one of them sentenced to death in Vienna and executed . 1936–1937 an open shelter hut was built in the middle of the east path and named Professor Karl Fürst Hut ( 2629  m ) as a lasting memory of this deed .

Individual evidence

  1. a b c The location of the hut is currently not clear. According to the Austrian map of the BEV, it is on the border, it is also listed in the  2001 local directory of Statistics Austria in both communities. According to the latest GIS data (Landesserver SAGIS and TIRIS), the state border is shortened a bit, so that the hut would be located entirely in the Mittersill municipality. It is unknown whether this is due to a redefinition of the boundary or a lack of detail in the (non-binding) GIS data.
