Rettenbach is a place in the valley of the Salzach and lies on the rubble cone of the Rettenbach , which comes from the Schellenberg  ( 2048  m above sea level ) of the Kitzbühel Alps . The place, which has now grown into a settlement, comprises around 75 houses.

The local area of Rettenbach, which stretches from the Mittersill municipal area a little further into Hollersbach, encompasses the entire left , northern bank of the Salzach up to the foot of the mountain between Mittersill and Hollersbach, and belongs to the cadastral communities of Spielbichl von Mittersill and Jochberg von Hollersbach. It stretches over 4 kilometers and consists mainly of agricultural grassland and individual farmsteads, with a total of almost 110 buildings and about 330 inhabitants, only a few of them in Hollersbach. These include the Schuhbichl location (Hollersbach municipality) and Einödberg Castle (Mittersill), 1 km into the valley from Rettenbach. Formally, it also extends beyond the Salzach, with a few parcels in the cadastral communities of Schattberg and Hollersbach, respectively .

The Rettenbach stop of the Pinzgau Railway is located below the village .

history

Until the late 19th century, the place consisted of only two farms, Großrettenbach on the left and Kleinrettenbach on the right bank of the Rettenbach. In the 1840s, on the initiative of Emperor Franz I , the moored soils of the Upper Salzach were drained. The wet meadows around Rettenbach were also drained by creating a drainage channel. Silted up at the upper end (Hollersbach municipal area), it now forms the lower reaches of the Einödbach from Schloss Einödberg. Remnants of bog have been preserved between the town and the castle.
The Pinzgauer Localbahn was built by 1898 , and with the location at the stop, the town began to grow.

In 1936, as part of the unification of Mittersill-Markt and -Land, some areas of Rettenbach were ceded to Hollersbach, but the Thorlehen location in the far east has since been counted as Lämmerbichl . 1939–45, when large communities were constructed all over Austria after the annexation, Hollersbach was then completely incorporated into Mittersill.

traffic

The place can be reached on Gerlos Straße  (B 165). The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn has a regular stop (course R33). The train bus (bus routes 670 and 671) stops on the federal road and at the train station.
