history

Draft drawing of the Prager Hütte (1872) by Johann Stüdl

The hut was built in 1872 by the Prague Section , but it was destroyed by an avalanche after four years. In 1877 the section built another hut, this time for 45 people. In 1901/03 the New Prague Smelter was built higher up . Repairs were carried out in 1923 and 1972.

The hut is closed until further notice: there is no catering and there is no overnight accommodation. The building was listed as a historical monument in 2012 to prevent demolition. The hut is currently being renovated. After the renovation, the Alte Prager Hütte will become the highest museum in Austria.
