geography

Waier is located south and southwest of the Matreier market. Together with the neighboring villages All the west and Bichl the east Waier forms a dispersed settlement in the south of Matreier market, referred to by the people as "Echlerwasser". The houses belonging to Waier are widely scattered. On the southern bank of the Isel , between Ganz and Bichl, there are two groups of houses, each consisting of four to five houses. In addition, the Feldner, Gassen, Abfalter and Wolsegger farms are located south of the Isel on the slope of the Zunig, the Wolsegger farm being the highest farm in Waiers. Waier also includes the much larger settlements in the area bounded by the Isel in the south, the Tauernbach in the east and the Virger Berg in the north. These include Bruggen, Zedlacher Strasse, the Auerfeld settlement and several houses further west on Virgentalstrasse around the Wallner and Rabenkopf farms. The Unterruggenthaler farm further west also belongs to Waier. Waier is part of the cadastral community of Matrei in East Tyrol .

history

In 1869 "Weier" consisted of 29 houses in which 128 people lived. With the construction of the Auerfeld settlement and other new buildings, Waier had doubled its population by 2001.
