geography

There are also numerous single-family houses and farms scattered across the Glanzer Berg . Hinterburg is part of the cadastral community of Matrei in East Tyrol .

In the 19th century, Hinterburg had a medium-sized population compared to the other Matrei villages. In 1869, 72 people lived in 11 houses in Hinterburg. In the 1890 census, the number of inhabitants had fallen slightly to 68. By the 1951 census, the population had risen to 107 people in 15 houses, but the great growth only started afterwards and led to Hinterburg becoming the third largest village in the Matrei community after Matreier Markt and Waier .
