Hinterburg is a fraction of the municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol . The village is located east of the Matrei market in the Matrei basin and has 222 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
Hinterburg is to the east of the Matrei market and east of the Felbertauernstrasse , which separates the Matrei market from Hinterburg. The settlement on Bretterwandbach , located in the south of Hinterburg, with Grabenweg and Marstallweg, also east of Felbertauernstraße, still belongs to the Matreier Markt. Only the Oberbacher farm located at the end of this settlement belongs to Hinterburg. The center of settlement in Hinterburg is on the street that leads from Felbertauernstrasse via Hinterburg to the east of Glanz , with the majority of the buildings being concentrated on Franz-Eichhorst-Weg. There are also numerous single-family houses and farms scattered across the Glanzer Berg . Hinterburg is part of the cadastral community of Matrei in East Tyrol .
population
In the 19th century, Hinterburg had a medium-sized population compared to the other Matrei villages. In 1869, 72 people lived in 11 houses in Hinterburg. In the 1890 census, the number of inhabitants had fallen slightly to 68. By the 1951 census, the population had risen to 107 people in 15 houses, but the great growth only started afterwards and led to Hinterburg becoming the third largest village in the Matrei community after Matreier Markt and Waier .
