Glanz is a fraction of the market town of Matrei in East Tyrol . The village on the Glanzer Berg with the associated hamlet Presslab has 96 inhabitants ( 2001 census ).

geography

Glanz lies northeast of the Matrei market above the village of Hinterburg on the sunny slopes of the Matrei basin. The main part of the settlement is to the right of the Bretterwandbach on the Glanzer Berg and is traversed by a small brook that flows into the Bretterwandbach. The hamlet Presslab, which is located on the left side of the Bretterwandbach at an altitude of 1,595 meters, is also part of Glanz. The Falkenstein with a well-known climbing garden is located near the two settlements . Glanz is part of the cadastral community of Matrei in East Tyrol .

Glanz can be reached via a winding road that branches off from the Felbertauernstraße (B 108) to the east. The road leads via Hinterburg with the last farms Innerlumasegger and Ausserlumasegger to Glanz. Forest paths lead from Glanz to the Wallische Hütte and the Ranzen alpine pastures (Edelweiss meadows). The hamlet Presslab, however, can only be reached via Klaunz .

history

Due to the steepness of the terrain on the sunny Glanzer Berg, there is no uniform settlement association. In addition, in earlier times it was important to have the steep fields and arable land in the immediate vicinity of the farm. That is why there are several individual farmsteads and smaller neighborhoods with a maximum of two or three farms in Glanz.

The residents of Preßlab about 620 meters above the market once had the task of warning the residents of the market about the outbreak of the Bretterwandbach brook. Using a large cloth or, in fog, by gunfire , they warned the market dwellers if they could hear or see breakages on the wooden wall . The market residents could then use the time until the debris arrived to remove the bridges over the Bretterwandbach and to close the gaps in the protective wall.

At the end of the 19th century there were in Glanz with the farms Maschgl, Honser, Simeter, Lenzen, Walzen, Schmutzer, Köfler, Lackner, Egger, Gewülz, Oberrainer, Unterrainer, Trager, Gruber, Ausserzumögg, Innerzumögg, Innerpreßlab, Oberpreßlab, Mitterpreßlab, Ausserpreßlab and capture another 21 farmyards. The farms of Oberroaner, Unterroaner, Schmutzer, Köfler, Lackner, Walzen, Hanser, Maschgl, Ausserzupnig, Innerpresslab and Ausserpresslab have survived from them.

Lackner Kirchle

The Lackner Kirchle is located next to the Lacknerhof (Glanz 8) at an altitude of 1,445 meters and dates from the second half of the 18th century. It is dedicated to the " Visitation of Mary ". According to tradition, the chapel was built after the two sons Alban and Andrä of the "Lackner" family (née Trager), who lived here, became seriously ill. After Andrä died, the father vowed to build a small church in case Alban survived and fulfilled his promise after his son had recovered.

Roaner Chapel

The Roaner Chapel is at an altitude of about 1,435 meters and dates from the first half of the 19th century. It is consecrated to Saint Sebastian and, according to legend, was created on the basis of a vow made by the old Roana farmer who gathered the stones for the shell in her apron. The simple chapel has a small altar with a simple structure from the 19th century. This is adorned with the altarpiece "Maria hilf", two angels and the statues of the apostles Paul and Peter . The top picture shows St. Sebastian. The bell of the chapel dates from 1949 and bears the inscription : " St. Anna mother you, lead us to heaven. " In 1988/89 the chapel was renovated inside and outside under the dean Holaus, and new ones were added in 1992 Stations of the Cross set up. An emergency plaque and a statue of Saint Sebastian were donated, and in 2001 the altar was renovated and re-gilded. The top of the tower is adorned with a golden ball with a cross and a weather valve, which were made in 2003 by a local blacksmith.

Presslab Chapel

The chapel in the hamlet of Preßlab was built in 1991. It is a small, modern chapel with a large window behind the altar table, which reveals the view of the surrounding mountains. The chapel was built by students and friends of Prelate Dr. Hubert Schachinger from Vienna, who spent 25 years on vacation in Preßlab and founded a holiday home for his students here.
